A LOOK INSIDE THE JOURNEY TO BECOMING

a horseman

Welcome to the CWH Blog, a direct insight into Colton's journey as he progresses his horsemanship. Colton's goal is to document his experiences as he works towards developing a better feel, timing, balance and understanding with the horse. By sharing first-hand experiences as well as those learned from others along the way, together we all have the opportunity to continually grow and strengthen the relationship we have with our horses and the people in our lives.

Stall Grazing!

You bet! Still feeding the amount of hay both Oney and Leroy need, wasting less and it will last them til morning. These Hay Chix hay nets are a crucial part of managing my own personal horses as well as horses that join us for further education. Being able to graze the nets throughout the day keeps forage in their system throughout the day helping reduce the chance of ulcers as well as behavior feeding problems. Teton Rockin' the Braids...

I've been told he prefers the style dreads bring to the table, but I think we've compromised with the braids ;) It's a tough life being Teton! This is Teton, a 2010 Nokota gelding that is Colton's personal horse. He's quite the individual and has been a blessing of knowledge to us. We look forward to continuing to share our journey together with you. Also I might add, I love a horse with a thick mane and tail and boy does Teton have that. Keeping it under control can feel like a full time job, nonetheless making sure each horse's coat is moisturized, healthy and shiny. It wouldn't be possible without a great friend of mine that I'm lucky enough to have partnered with. Trudy Midas, Espana

The Independent Packer, Spending time with Leroy

Headed out to the arena this morning with my second one for the day right behind me. This horse is an all around great 'packer' and will be great for his owners. For me though, this horse has challenged me to think from so many angles. Essentially this guy will do all the basic, is super safe and quiet minded, goes around seemingly happy (ears forward and soft expression), but given the choice to be with you or off to himself, this horse would rather be by himself. 1 Exception- if you got feed he'll be your best friend, don't have feed, forget it. Now don't get me wrong, it's not like he cannot be caught. He know the whole pressure, release, balance point, rolling the hind quarters across, f

Behind the Brand: Meaning, Purpose, Foundation

It is no small feat to capture the passion, principals, mission, romance and eye appeal by the initial visionary's standards within a digital graphic. Cowboys and horsemen are already particular in how they go about their daily routine and work with their stock, nonetheless when analyzing a graphic that will be a big part of the public image of their outfit. Having spent many hours looking at different ideas, brainstorming my own, critiquing the posture of a certain horse's head, the angle at which its eye sat and so on, I had settled for logos along the way but none of them had fully encompassed what I wanted them to capture. One day when sitting down with Maredith Davis Design, the pieces
